PLUGGED

The average person is exposed to 54,000 words of textual information in a single day through our smart devices. This number dramatically increases through our work and daily life duties of emails, digital imagery, and web browsing. Our brains were not designed to be overloaded with a vast amount of information on a daily basis and to be subjected to permanent connection to our technological network. We spend most of our waking lives interacting within two spaces; our home and work spaces. The solution to our over connectivity is not in simply cutting our networks dry but to revisit the forgotten third space that is easily accessible and vital to our health; the natural world.

THE THIRD SPACE

The third space is the natural environment which encompasses us in our parks and wilderness. Our lives, being heavily connected by technology and media, are quickly becoming more disconnected from this space.  We rarely have moments where we are truly unplugged and disconnected from our web and media selves, keeping our minds and hearts out of the present moment. Our mission as a landscape design and build company is to inspire healthy thought and positive action through the creation of custom exterior environments. We design with the intention of reconnecting people to the natural world and bringing nature's healing properties to the communities we serve.

" To the body and mind which have been cramped by noxious work or company, nature is medicinal and restores their tone." - Ralph Waldo Emerson Nature (1836)

RECONNECTING TO NATURE

The environments we interact with either increase or reduce our levels of stress, which directly impacts our long term health. Every experience of sight, smell or hearing that we engage has an effect on our mood and nervous system. A stressful environment has the ability to elevate your blood pressure, increase muscle tension, and trigger anxiety, which can lead to both mental and physical suffering. Studies have shown that nature proves to be a remedy for these feelings of tension, anxiety and stress, with two thirds of people choosing to retreat to natural environments in order to relax and recharge. Spending time in nature or simply staring at a tree can lower blood pressure, heighten our focus and  bring our overactive minds to a place of now. Time spent walking through a public park or simply relaxing in our backyards allows us to become more connected with ourselves and with each other. We become better as people and more connected as a community through the use the nature's benefits as a vehicle for healing, connection and mental clarity.

Why not invest in your third space by bringing nature into our everyday lives?
